The Saigon High-Tech Park Management Board has recently approved an investment certificate for WEMBLEY MEDICAL FACTORY JOINT STOCK COMPANY to establish a medical device manufacturing factory.
As per the Director and Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Thuy, the medical device manufacturing factory will be constructed on a 7,000-square-meter site with a total investment of 230 billion VND. The project is set to commence construction in the middle of this year and is anticipated to commence operations in 2018. The factory will focus on producing a wide range of medical devices, including dental, orthopedic, and rehabilitation devices. One area of expertise will be intravenous (IV) catheters.
As per Charles Wembley, Vietnam Medical Equipment Corporation, Vietnam imports around 50 million IV catheters every year, with a price range of 13,000 to 15,000 VND per catheter. Every year, a significant amount of VND is spent on imports. Nevertheless, the new factory will only be able to fulfill approximately 10% of the existing yearly requirement for IV catheters.
After the initial phase is finished, the factory will be able to produce approximately 5 million IV catheters per year. The prices of these catheters are projected to be 20-30% lower than those of imported products. IV catheters are commonly utilized in medical facilities for efficient drug delivery through the veins, resulting in a notable reduction in the healthcare sector's workload.
It is worth mentioning that the project is fully funded by Vietnamese enterprises and includes extensive technology transfer, enabling Vietnamese ownership of all stages from research and development to final production. The entire production line will be sourced from countries renowned for their cutting-edge technology.
